We have the most wonderful guests at Lazy
Days River Retreat! Many of our guests return
time and time again! Below are entries from the cabin's "Guest Journal" (last updated 12/8/2009):

Tommy and I had such a great time! From our first sighting of a deer when we first pulled up to our two-a-day hot tub sessions. I now want a jukebox, but Tommy says he doesn’t think he can handle 24 hours of bad karaoke constantly. We were both amazed at the quietness coming from the noisy city living... Thanks for an amazing and relaxing weekend getaway!
~
Fondly, Tommy and Mandy
We had a wonderful weekend getaway at Lazy Days! Morning walks to the river, afternoons in Berkeley Springs, and an adventure through the mysterious Paw Paw tunnel…a great family vacation! Thanks for this special cabin. It is well kept, and in a beautiful location. We’ll be back!
~ The Ridge Family, PA
Once again the hot tub was grand. The quiet and seclusion are wonderful. Next time we come we might actually make it to the river.
~ Brian McGahy and Adell Milne - Rockville, MD
What a great vacation! All our needs were anticipated, just like home but better! Very relaxing, LOVE the hot tub. Panorama Restaurant was the best, great fishing (I caught the big one J) and great antique mall in Berkeley Springs. Thank you so much for making this home away from home so comfortable!
~ Sandy Sutton, John Beemer, and Zeke (the dog), Ocean Grove, NJ
We had a wonderful time at your beautiful home! The name fits. We relaxed and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings.
~ Gordon and Colleen Schauer, Ashburn VA
We all had a great time staying at your little establishment. Everything is very well organized. We celebrated my 18th birthday and I personally couldn’t think of any better way to have a better birthday, unless you’re the sort of person who can’t stand their family. One of the things my Dad and I admired about the cabin is if you sit anywhere in the main living area; preferably the brown couch or the two rockers; you’ll see that the area surrounding you outside is like a tree house. You really can’t see the forest floor, so it looks like you’re up in the trees. We loved the Paw Paw tunnel, it was very mysterious; be sure to bring a flashlight! The Panorama restaurant was excellent, the view was gorgeous.
~ Lauren, Anne, and Rob Shylah of Great Falls, VA, Leah of McLean, VA, and Kai the dog
Had a great time. Best equipped house we have ever stayed in.
~ Roger, Joe, Josh, and Dissa - Raleigh NC
Thank you so much – this was a wonderful (and necessary) respite for myself, husband, my 84 year old father, and our 10 year old labradoodle, Luke. Grill is best of any rental ever – beach or mountains. We hope to come again.
~ Vail, Roger, Johnnie and Luke
Thank you for the wonderful cabin and all the included goodies for our first annual ladies retreat from Living Waters Christian Fellowship. Everything exceeded our expectations. Went to the restaurant, Panorama at the Peak and it was great! We had an awesome weekend, much needed relaxation and inspiration. God has provided some amazing surroundings and you provided great lodging to make for a perfect weekend.
~ May God Bless, Ladies Group of LWCF, Barbara, Betty, Cassidy, Debbie, Rhonda, and Yvette - Winchester VA
Tammera, our dogs Jan and Bud, and I thoroughly enjoyed 4 wonderful days of relaxation and entertainment. Thank you!
~ The Farris' - Bridgeport, WV
The milkshake machine and hot tub made this trip. While the jukebox provided a soundtrack, the movie selection gave constant entertainment, thus your well-equipped cabin made for a wonderful vacation for all of us, from 16 to 57. Thank you!
~ The Schexnayder Family - Baltimore, MD
When you live in Barrow, Alaska, the sun sets on November 16th and we won’t see it again until January 24th. Thus, suffice to say this was an awesome place to relax with family that we don’t get to see as often as we would like. Absorbed more sunshine and made more Vitamin D in a day than we have in 3 months in Barrow. Thank you and thanks to Aunt Carol for setting this up!
~ The Greene Family, Barrow, Alaska
We had a very relaxing visit. Your cabin is awesome. Hiking in the State Park was beautiful…..the trails are well-marked and vary in difficulty. The trees are “in-season” and the view from this house was great. Thank you for letting us bring our dog, Sydney, she was exhausted from all of our walks!
~ Janice and Calvin - Timonium, MD
Very homey and very comfy! Totally enjoyed the home and surroundings. Beautiful scenery and weather. The master bedroom has the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. We were amazed by all the time taken to put together the notebooks and the availability of great books and movies. We unfortunately had to leave a couple days early due to a family emergency but hope to come back! Thanks for sharing.
~ Gary and Linda - Edinboro, PA
Oh what luxury! We enjoyed it all – the marvelous bedding, the powerful hot tub, the great kitchen. We even played Yahtzee and watched Gettysburg in Miniature – which is better than expected. And thank you for the complete thoughtfulness from extra batteries to feminine products! You are obviously special people. We hope to be back and to stay longer.
~ Lurie and Thomas - Rockville, MD
Eric and Megan, Thanks so much for letting us use your cabin for our home away from home. We have had a wonderful and relaxing week here at Lazy Days River Retreat. We had a good week just looking at the pretty mountains and driving around Berkeley Springs. This is the first time here. We also went into Winchester VA and Martinsburg WV. The Farmers Market in Winchester VA was great. My sister came with us and she just couldn’t get over the quietness and peacefulness here. She kept saying NO CELL PHONES and not much traffic. Well our two babies (dogs) Shih Tzu L.C. and Precious really liked trailing the deer. And they liked all the birds. We kept telling them not to bark because all the wildlife are their friends. My sister and I really liked the West Virginia cookbooks, so my husband ordered the books for us over the Internet. The weather was first rate. We loved the low 50s at night. We didn’t have to use any heat and not much AC. We would like to make another visit back in the fall when the leaves are all in color. Thanks again, may God bless.
~ Bill, Ruby, Sis, L.C., Precious - Waldorf, MD
What a relaxing time! We passed up a vacation to Williamsburg in favor of finding a place where we could just relax as a family and rest from our busy lives. We found it here. Thanks for making an exception to allow our six children – they had a fabulous time playing UNO, dancing in the rain, and going (hesitatingly!) through the Paw Paw Tunnel! ? Thanks – and do we have to leave?!
~ The Houseworth Family - Charlottesville, VA
We had excellent weather for fishing, swimming in the river, and relaxing. The town is just quaint enough, and there is plenty to see. Your cabin is great – and is thoughtfully arranged and also thoughtfully equipped. The extra amenities were an added bonus that was truly enjoyed. Your library of books and entertainment was excellent. We also appreciated the detailed description of the surroundings and activities that you prepared in the 3-ring binders. Thank you for making our first trip to WV such an enjoyable one – I’m quite sure that we’ll be back soon!!
~ Margaret, John, and Canine - Landenberg, PA
We really enjoyed the river retreat and several lazy and rainy days. The wildlife in the area is amazing and a little scary when you see a deer in the headlights on the way home at night. The cabin is very well equipped, clean, and comfortable. Thanks Eric and Megan!
~ Rick and Linda - Surrey, England
Packing up after a very relaxing, very lovely long weekend. A great place to come hang out with friends – lying in the hammock, swimming in the Cacapon, eating lots of good food (who knew there would be a milkshake maker?). The Paw Paw Tunnel was an experience – left the dog a little nervous, but hopefully not too traumatized (she seems back to normal). First time in West Virginia – left us eager to return.
~ Greg, Debbie, Danielle, and Mela - Alexandria, VA
We loved West Virginia! We had a lot of family-oriented things to do, which was great because my brother and I begin college this fall. The parks in the area are beautiful and the mountaintop views are breathtaking. The hot tub was enjoyed thoroughly (esp. by my mom). The cabin was cozy, comfortable, and very well kept. We enjoyed our stay and loved being able to explore the local mountains and parks, as well as in Paw Paw. Thank you so much – best wishes!
~ The Sneads - Baltimore, MD
Greetings! What a heavenly place you have. My family and I usually travel with Lysol, rubber gloves, and disinfectants. We did not have to use any of it. To say the least, we appreciated cleanliness. It is truly ALMOST heaven. My favorite part was jogging up the hill, passing the deer on the way. I change my mind. My favorite part was showering and then getting into the hot tub to soothe my aching muscles. I change my mind. Panorama at the Peak was the bomb. That means good. I change my mind. My favorite part was sitting on the porch with family in the cool of the evening just relaxing. Being originally from W. Va., I must say that the friendliness of my fellow West Virginians made me proud. The gentleman at the Stoney Creek store who sold me fish bait and fed me with good unpretentious conversation; the people who directed me to the hardware store in Paw Paw and the hardware store employees in Paw Paw were great. Take me home to the place where I belong. West Virginia, mountain mama, country roads. PS: A visit to Martinsburg to the Eastern Panhandle crafts/antique variety store is well worth the trip.
~ P. Radford - Washington, DC
We would like to say thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home. It’s in a nice, peaceful, quiet setting and it was just what we were looking for. Your home felt like home away from home in that it was cozy; it had everything you could possibly need and more. Your amenities were just up our alley. Also we had fun at the Panorama and Tari’s. We also had a chance to stop at Martinsburg and shop the flea markets. Everything was fun. Thanks a bunch.
~ The Radford Family - Washington, DC
Great place to play Mah Jong. One of the last places you can have a quiet peaceful place to contemplate life. Kudos to the Steak and Seafood House in Berkeley Springs.
~ Sue U., Sue S., Lynn, and Linda - Bethesda, MD
Our
second time here, this to celebrate David’s
45th birthday (and Trae, the Doberman’s
8th birthday)! We all had a great time –
we’ll be back again, I’m sure!
~ Mary, Keith, David, Jim, Bruce,
Corie - Baltimore, MD & Dover, DE
We met my Mom at Antietam after she did her
week of volunteer work at the battlefield. After
touring the battlefield, our little caravan
of two vehicles arrived at Lazy Days River Retreat.
Everyone had a wonderful time just hanging out
and “chilling” in 86 degree weather!
Sara and Kixx had a great time sniffing and
playing ball. Thanks!

This was our first cabin rental and we loved
it. We mostly go camping but we just sold ours
(gas prices)! We agree with everything said
on opposite page! Our two dogs loved the place
and they don’t want to leave. Lots of
deer and birds not to mention peace and quiet.
We only had two days and like to return for
a longer stay in the future. Thanks for use
of cabin! PS – Take a walk through the
Paw Paw Tunnel!
~ John and Jamie Kohl - Womelsdorf,
Pennsylvania
Great cabin. We have been visiting the Berkeley
Springs cabins for a while now. This is one
of the best ones we have stayed at. Hot tub
on the deck, fireplace, good amenities, and
very well maintained. The book and move collection
is AWESOME. Someone has a great taste here and
we thought it is worth mentioning. It’s
a great stay. Very peaceful and relaxing!!!
We will come back again when it is not so cold.
Thank you!!!
~ S&M&A - Fairfax, VA
Totally exceeded everyone’s expectations!
A wonderful place to bring in my 40th birthday
(I’m still younger than the rest of the
crew). The Paw Paw Tunnel is awesome. We’re
heading to the Panorama for brunch – menu
looks fabulous. Being able to have our dogs
here made it perfect. Our Labrador thinks dogs
should be allowed in the hot tub :-)
~ Jessica, Chris, Daisy, and Mocha
- New Market, MD
Such a relaxing weekend – we all enjoyed
your place, especially our Doberman Trae! We
will definitely come here again.
~ The Waltz Family - Baltimore,
MD / Dover, DE
Thank you so much for the wonderful vacation.
This is a very relaxing, homey atmosphere. We
fully enjoyed our Christmas here. We will definitely
be back. Thanks again!
~The Cornaire Family - San Diego,
CA / Ashburn, VA / Bath, NY
Dear Lazy Days Family – Mommy, Daddy,
Charlie (our dog), and I had a great time being
lazy in your wonderful home. It was so clean
I crawled all over the place exploring. Charlie
had great fun barking at the squirrels and sniffing
for deer. Mommy and Daddy must have really enjoyed
the hot tub and king size bed – they looked
well rested every morning. We all enjoyed the
fireplace. To listen to Garrison Keillor, put
the portable radio [in the coat closet] on a
bar stool to the right of the fern wall hanging.
Thanks again for letting us use your home –
we hope to come back soon.
~ Madeleine R. (7 months), Washington,
DC
We enjoyed this beautiful and quiet retreat.
We can’t wait to come back!
~ The Bentleys
We had an absolutely spectabulous stay at the
Lazy Days wooded hut. The house is very cozy
and set on a beautiful plot of land. We’d
love to come back!!
~ J, L, K, and P
This is our fifth stay in Berkeley Springs
and this cabin gets a five star, two thumbs
up rating! Starting with the welcoming committee,
Sammy and Sheba (our dog Zora thought she had
died and gone to heaven when she saw them!),
adding the serene and beautiful surroundings,
amenities, and tasteful decorating, then wrapping
that up with a warm soak in the hot tub –
what can we say? Superb, peaceful, relaxing,
and TOUGH TO LEAVE! Thanks for sharing your
beautiful home! We’ll definitely return
and soon!
~ David, Michelle, and Zora
This cabin lacks nothing! Clean, tastefully
furnished, in a beautiful setting. The only
thing that rivaled it was the weather –
superb! Dinner at the Panorama was really excellent.
Thanks for a wonderful weekend getaway.
~ S&P, Lancaster County, PA
This is a beautiful place. Hot tub is great.
The quiet is remarkable. We'll come back sometime.
~ Brian and Adell, Rockville, MD
What a great cabin! We enjoyed a relaxing weekend
and we'll definitely be back.
~ Joe and Julie Siler, Shepherdstown,
WV
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your
cabin! We had an unforgettable weekend. The
girls enjoyed massages and everyone had fun
in the hot tub. Honey (the dog) enjoyed running
around with the "locals". We also
had fun swimming at the Cacapon State Park.
Once again, thank you so much for an awesome
weekend. Hope to be back soon!
~ Adam, Erica, Diana, Ross, Brent,
and Honey
Thank you so much for the opportunity to use
your lovely cabin for five days. It was a "little
bit of Heaven." We love the view and were
greeted daily by all the beautiful deer. You
are blessed by having such a beautiful part
of our country to live in. We shall return!
~Bob and Cindy Millard, Newport
News, VA
Thank you for letting us use your wonderful
vacation cabin! We had a very relaxing and fun-filled
weekend. The cabin was fully stocked with everything
we needed, and it's in a great location! Hopefully
we'll be back soon! Thanks again!
~ Lauren, Dillon, Meg, and Bruce
This was our first time staying at a vacation
cottage and we were very impressed! The cottage
is stocked with pretty much everything you could
need (from tweezers to calculators). The hot
tub was an exquisite experience and the house
was quite comfortable and clean. There is so
much to explore just outside the cottage - our
dogs loved it! It's about a 15-20 minute drive
to a fantastic swimming spot on the Cacapon
(look for "public stream access" sign).
30 minutes gets you to Rite Aid, Food Lion,
and Dairy Queen. We'll come back again!
~ Sarah and Kris, Washington DC
The Panorama Restaurant was great. Excellent
fresh food and a warm atmosphere. We enjoyed
the hot tub, the relaxation, and playing games
at the house! Thank you. Oh – Mountain
Laurel Craft Gallery was a great store –
unique gifts!
~ Debra and Darryel
My sister and I loved the cabin. We found it
very relaxing and peaceful. It was an added
bonus that my sister was allowed to bring her
dog. The hot tub was my favorite amenity. What
a great place to just hang out.
~ Crystal May
We had an excellent time. This is a beautiful
cabin and we appreciate the use of it. ~Michael
and Heather
What a wonderful “home” away from
home. No detail overlooked. Absolutely loved
it!
~Erica and Benjamin
Perfect Memorial Day! Thanks for this wonderful
home. Beautiful, peaceful location. This "cottage"
is so thoughtfully set up -- we felt very pampered
by all your amenities! Thank you!
~ The Zubalys, Falls Church, VA
What a getaway! :-) We enjoyed the mountains
and Windor (our dog) enjoyed the river. Great
place - thanks!
